DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the opening of a new main road connecting Abdullah Abdul Ghani Roundabout in Al Wakra with Al Mashaf in Al Wukair.
The road, opened to traffic last week, is around 3km and  650 metres long and comprises three lanes in each direction and a signal-controlled intersection with a median.
The road aims to reduce traffic jams in Al Wakra City and connect the roundabout with Al Mashaf directly, reducing the effect of backed up traffic at Al Sadafa Roundabout in the middle of Al Wakra City.
It is part of a plan to develop and build main and expressway roads in Al Wakra and south of Qatar.
The plan includes Al Wakra Bypass west of Al Wakra, which will be a main road parallel to Al Wakra Main Road, East West Corridor and New Orbital Highway and Truck Route.
