Doha, Qatar: The Katara Cultural Village Foundation hosted a Colombian culinary arts event at Hall 32 in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia in Qatar, in an evening that celebrated cultural exchange and highlighted Colombia’s rich heritage, cuisine, and tourism attractions.
The event was attended by Director General of Katara Professor Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti and Ambassador of Colombia H E Odette David alongside several ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, and invited guests.
Guests were introduced to a variety of traditional Colombian dishes that reflected the country’s diverse cultural identity and deep-rooted heritage. The festive gathering combined culinary experiences with presentations showcasing Colombia’s tourism destinations, breathtaking natural landscapes, tropical forests, rivers, and historical landmarks.
Speaking during the event, Ambassador Odette David expressed her pleasure at participating in the cultural evening and stressed the importance of cultural exchange in strengthening ties between nations and peoples.
“We are very pleased to gather with you this evening at Katara Cultural Village, a place that truly embodies the spirit of cultural dialogue and exchange,” she said. “Tonight, we wanted to offer a glimpse of Colombia through traditional dishes such as arepa, pandebono, and carimañola.”
She noted that food holds a special emotional significance for Colombians, linking people to family memories, social gatherings, and a sense of belonging to their homeland.
“For many Colombians living abroad, tasting these dishes brings back memories of their childhood kitchens and family moments, just as traditional food connects every nation to its culture and roots,” she added.
The event formed part of Katara’s ongoing efforts to promote intercultural dialogue and host international cultural activities that contribute to strengthening civilisational communication and introducing audiences in Qatar to the traditions and cultures of countries around the world.
