QU’s women’s Class of 2015 graduates

DOHA: Qatar University’s women’s Class of 2015 celebrated its graduation yesterday in a ceremony graced by H H Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani. 
A total of 1,041 students received their degree certificates from QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad. 136 students were honoured for achieving Grade point average of 3.50 and above.
The ceremony also saw the awarding of Qatar’s second PhD degree to Alaa Ghassan Aboutaqa from the Department of Civil Engineering. Maan Mohammed Jalal Haj Rashid from the Computer Science and Engineering department had received the first-ever PhD degree at the male graduation ceremony the previous day.
Also attending the ceremony were Minister of Transport H E Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, the Vice Chairman of QU’s Board of Regents and Managing Director of Qatar Center of Leadership, Sheikh Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al Thani, and the Chairman of Qatari Businessmen Association, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, as well as local dignitaries, QU vice-presidents and associate VPs, deans, heads of department, invited guests, faculty, students’ relatives and alumni.
Among the new graduates, 924 received bachelor’s degrees, 106 got master’s degrees, 10 received PharmD degrees, and one got a diploma.
Among the graduates, 368 were from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), 200 from the College of Business and Economics (CBE), nine from the College of Education (CED), 134 from the College of Engineering (CENG), 92 from the Law College, 21 from the College of Pharmacy (CPH) and 99 from the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies (CSIS). 
The masters’ degrees, by college, were 26 from CAS, 23 from CBE, 12 from CED, 35 from CENG, four from CPH, and six from CSIS. Ten students received Doctor of Pharmacy degrees, while one received a diploma in education and one a PhD in engineering. 
Prof Al Misnad thanked H H Sheikha Jawaher for honouring the graduates and praised the students for achieving their academic goals and reaping the rewards of hard work and perseverance.

Along with the College of Pharmacy and programs at the Health Sciences Department, CMED is designed to address the increasing need for Qatar-trained healthcare professionals, and to support the country’s growing healthcare sector and national strategies in healthcare and education,” Dr Al Misnad said.
Valedictorian Eiman Al Shammari of College of Arts and Sciences gave heartfelt congratulations to her colleagues, saying, “Today we are preparing to start a new phase in our personal and professional lives. We have waited for a long time for this moment in our academic journey. On behalf of my colleagues, I extend our gratitude to our parents and faculty for their contribution in our success, for their invaluable support and for guiding us in our endeavours. We also thank Qatar University for providing us with high-quality academic programs and with opportunities that unlocked our potential and shaped us with the best skills and knowledge that meet the needs of the labour market and that will enhance our personal development.”THE PENINSULA
