Washington--The United States welcomed Tuesday the news that Poland is planning to buy the US-made Patriot missile system in a deal worth up to $5 billion amid heightened tensions with neighboring Russia.
"Poland is a stalwart NATO ally, and its defense modernization program... directly fortifies the military strength of the alliance," State Department acting spokeswoman Marie Harf said in a statement, adding that "economic diplomacy in support of American companies... is a centerpiece of our international agenda."
