Doha: The Doha Film Institute (DFI), in partnership with VOX Cinemas will screen Casablanca Beats from March 24 to 26.
DFI said the film is one of the high profile Arabic films of 2021. Directed by Nabil Ayouch, Casablanca Beats featured in competition at Cannes 2021 and was nominated for the Palme d’Or.
The film was released in 2021 and is a story about former rapper Anas who takes a job at a cultural centre in a working-class neighbourhood in Casablanca.
Encouraged by a new teacher, the students will try to free themselves from the weight of restrictive traditions in order to live their passions and express themselves through hip-hop.
The movie will be screened at Doha Festival City at 8pm for three days. Casablanca Beats is the second movie that the two organisations will screen. The first was C’mon C’mon which was screened in February.
The 2021 Moroccan drama film was reportedly the first film from the country to compete at the prestigious Palme d’Or since 1962.
It was also selected as the Moroccan entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
The Palme d’Or is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival.
