The 6th Annual Conference on the Social Sciences and Humanities organised by Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) concluded yesterday at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.
The sessions of the three-day conference were focused on two themes: “Ethics in Arab-Islamic Civilization” and “Arab Youth: Migration and the Future”.
The ten sessions under the first theme focused on the meaning of ethics in Muslim philosophers' thoughts specially in Andalusia seeking better understanding of the concept of ethics in Mu’tazila’s philosophy, Ash’arism and Sufism.
Researchers tried to address these points against the question of moral and ethics in contemporary Arab and Muslim situation in light of the concepts of modernity, globalisation and democracy.
Some of the researchers raised these issues within the context of the contemporary life and the current scientific advances raising the question of ethics and morality in relation to the prevailing practices of human genome, organ transplantation, surrogacy, artificial intelligence and networking presence in social media platforms.
On the second issue of Arab Youth, migration and future, researchers addressed the ongoing migration from different points of views analysing reasons and consequences of migration of youth. Some argued that the youth are escaping from poor economic conditions longing for better living conditions.
As well many of the papers dealt with situation of Arab migrants in the hosting countries and how the hosting societies look at them and the perception of migration among people in their countries of origin.
