DOHA: Qatar will mark World Water Day today under the theme ‘Better Water Better Jobs’ with a focus on the role of labourers in water and allied sectors.
“Qatar marks World Water Day which falls on March 22 due to its realisation for the importance of water in continuing and developing the life on planet earth. Observing this day is shedding light on the efforts of providing desalination water and promoting sustainable management of its resources through events and activities arranged by various countries and authorities, one of which is Qatar,” Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada said in statement yesterday. He said this year’s theme ‘Better Water Better Jobs’ reminds us of the impact of water and jobs in changing life to the best, with labourers in the water sector forming about half of the world’s labour force.
“ All the jobs depend on fresh water and labourers’ efforts who work to provide it and ensure its quality and safety.
“Water is the main element for sustainable development. Thus, working to provide water resources, preserve them and enhancing the services connected to them are a decisive element in fundamental issues that are not limited to fight against poverty, economic growth, environmental sustainability, food security and human health,” he said.
Al Sada said Qatar, under the leadership of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is committed to support everything related to providing, and preserving water resources.
“In this year’s celebration, we give a great attention to the importance for the main role of water and jobs in achieving the sustainable development and ensuring better future for coming generations; which coincide with Qatar National Vision 2030 that aims to turn Qatar by 2030 into an advanced country and able to provide a sustainable generous living for its people,” he added.
Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) said this year’s theme is in line with its mission in providing sustainable electricity and water with high quality for better living in Qatar.
The celebration of World Water Day coincides with GCC Conservation Week starting which starts today. The importance of this occasion is reflected in raising and highlighting the concerns for the importance of rational consumption and its impact on preserving resources.
