A special edition watch honouring boxing legend Muhammad Ali had its middle east unveiling at this year’s Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE).
TAG Heuer, in partnership with Al Majed Jewellery, hosted the exclusive Middle East unveiling of the TAG Heuer Carrera Muhammad Ali Special Edition watch in front of watch connoisseurs.
The exhibition, now in its 13th year, is one of the most exclusive in the world to view and purchase unique watches, jewellery and precious stones.
With the Muhammed Ali edition, its inspiration drawn from the 1957 Heuer Ring Master, TAG Heuer adheres to its sports DNA by creating a luxury timepiece in honour of the boxing legend. Due to the vast sentimental attachment and devotion to “The Greatest” in the Middle East, TAG Heuer chose DJWE to showcase the special edition.
The unique timepiece was inspired by the famous Ring-Master, which was a stop watch that featured seven interchangeable rings, each one featuring a different scale, including one for boxing. After personally meeting the boxing champion in 2012, Jean Claude Biver,
TAG Heuer CEO & President of the LVMH Group Watch Division, paid tribute to Muhammad Ali by creating a dedicated timepiece.
The limited and numbered edition with Arabic dial was much appreciated by all. The Ali watch is also currently on display in the TAG Heuer museum, located in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.
The Muhammad Ali Carrera Calibre 5 comes in stainless steel and there are 750 international as well as 750 additional timepieces that specifically have Arabic numerals on the dial.
Due to Muhammad Ali’s personal history and strong connections with the Middle East, it felt only natural to launch a Middle East version for this unique timepiece, Muhammad Ali is responsible for some of the most legendary moments in sports and civil rights history.
More than 50 years after he emerged as a Gold Medalist at the 1960 Rome Olympics, Ali remains one of the most recognizable men in history.
His incomparable work ethic, revolutionary techniques, and fearlessness towards standing up for his beliefs, all contribute to the legend that was Muhammad Ali. Among his countless awards and accolades, he was named Sports Illustrated’s “Sportsman of the Century,” GQ’s “Athlete of the Century,” was a United Nations Messenger of Peace, and has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Amnesty International Lifetime Achievement Award.
