The Georgia-based ‘Wax Sculpture Company’ has opened its first outlet in Qatar. The facility is located outside Souq Waqif Art Center; wax sculptures catches the attention of many people.

The company started  IS operations ten years ago; by manufacturing designed candles; cartoon shaped, colourful candles, names molded candles, and has now started making hand-sculptures from paraffin wax.

Price of hand sculpture for children is for QR 35 and adult QR 55. Different candles are available starting from QR 10 to QR 50. “

This procedure attracted people due to the benefits of it, petroleum-based paraffin wax is used to soften and soothe skin, most often on the hands and feet. Your hands are submerged in warm liquid wax of paraffin, and the wax then hardens slightly on your skin and is removed after a few minutes. Paraffin wax helps deep-moisturize and condition the skin on your hands, and your nails and cuticles, this is mostly used in beauty salons for a perfect manicure and pedicure,” told Muhammad Nassir, owner of the outlet to The Peninsula.

“Our procedure gives the same benefits to the customer but we provide them with the beautiful sculpture of their hand. First we apply moisturising creame on the hands and creame on the nails to avoid any harm, secondly we dip the hand in paraffin wax and then in water, this procedure is repeated four times. We remove paraffin wax sculpture off the hands and dip in a special wax to harden the sculpture. Then we dip the sculpture in water, as soon as it becomes hard and strong we give the it the colour that the customer needs,” he added.

Paata Giorgadza, Sculpture Artist told The Peninsula: “I am working in this art for the last ten years. I am a choreographer and artist. I love my work; I have seen many people coming here in past few days as I see more children visiting in their spring break from schools. The paraffin wax gives details of hands.”

“People come to me to get their hands coloured in their flags, while few couples ask for a holding hands gesture. Most of the people make different gestures of hand to keep them as a decoration piece in their home,” he said.

Abdul Rehman, an 11-year-old boy at the stall said: “I heard about it from my friend and requested my parents to take me here, now I am excited to experience it.” “I was afraid to see people; dipping their hands in hot wax.

But then my father told me that I should experience it. I experienced the exciting making procedure of my hand sculpture and I loved it, it was warm and fun, “said, Noor Ali, a 13 year-old girl.
