DOHA: Nam Tae-Hee scored a brace to help defending champions Lekhwiya win 2-1 against Eljaish in the Qatar Stars League (QSL) yesterday.
The result, after a four-week break sees Al Sadd’s lead at the top reduced to three points, who play their QSL match against Qatar SC today.
Elsewhere in other QSL action yesterday, Al Rayyan beat Umm Salal 3-1, with Yong Hyung Cho, Nilmar and Rodrigo Tabata scoring for the Heir Apparent Cup winners.
Umm Salal’s goal was scored by Sasa Ognenovski. In another QSL match yesterday, Al Wakra held off Al Sailiyah to clinch a thrilling 3-2 win at Soud bin Abdalrahman Stadium.
Al Rayyan’s win means that Diego Aguirre’s side is third with 26 points.
Umm Salal are in sixth position with 17 points.
Al Wakra’s win means that they move up by one place to seventh position with 15 points.
Al Sailiyah are rooted to the bottom of the standings, after losing their last four matches.
Al Rayyan took the lead in the 32nd minute when Cho received a pass from his team-mate to cooly slot the ball past the Umm Salal goalkeeper. The hosts got back into the game early in the second half when Ognenovski powered his header in the 54th minute.
Umm Salal then found themselves behind again when Nilmar gave Al Rayyan the lead, following a quick counter-attack.
Tabata, who was named as Player of the Year last sesaon, then made sure of the points with a goal late in the game.
Meanwhile, in the match between Lekhwiya and Eljaish, Adriano Martins gave the home the lead.
