Paris: The Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) unanimously elected HE Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hinzab, the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to UNESCO, as Chairperson of the Executive Board during its 223rd session, held at the Organization's headquarters in Paris.
The election of HE Al Hinzab to this prestigious position reflects the deep confidence and high international standing enjoyed by the State of Qatar within multilateral international organizations, particularly in UNESCO's areas of work.
It also underscores Qatar's active role in supporting education, culture, and science, and in promoting the values of peace and dialogue among peoples.
In addition, it highlights the country's continued contributions to UNESCO's activities and programs, as well as its initiatives aimed at safeguarding education in times of crises and conflicts, preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage, and advancing human rights within UNESCO's fields of competence.
This achievement marks a new milestone in Qatar's record of accomplishments on the international stage, further consolidating its position as a key partner in shaping global policy directions in the fields of education, culture, and science, in support of peace and sustainable development worldwide.
On this occasion, Qatar's Permanent Representative to UNESCO and Chairperson of the Executive Board expressed his pride in the confidence placed in him, stating that he is honored to receive the trust of the Executive Board's member states and to assume the presidency of this pivotal decision-making body within UNESCO.
He affirmed that he will work, in cooperation with all members, to strengthen UNESCO's role in supporting quality education and safeguarding the right to education, protecting cultural heritage, advancing the sciences, and promoting the values of understanding and peace among nations.
He added that this responsibility reflects the State of Qatar's steadfast commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development, entrenching a culture of dialogue and openness, and ensuring that every individual, wherever they may be, can enjoy their rights to education, culture, and a dignified life.
UNESCO's Executive Board plays a central role in formulating the Organization's general policies, monitoring the implementation of decisions adopted by the General Conference, approving the principal programs in the fields of education, culture, science, communication, and information, and overseeing the implementation of legal instruments, conventions, and recommendations related to UNESCO's areas of competence.
