DOHA: Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the State of Qatar H E Igor Marara Kayinamura (pictured) affirmed that the visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Rwanda is a clear evidence of the strength of the solid and growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
In a statement to QNA, the Ambassador noted that this visit, which is HH the Amir’s third visit to Rwanda, reflects a continuous and high-level commitment, and embodies the strength of the bilateral relations based on friendship and mutual trust between the two countries’ leaderships, highlighting the mutual visits between HH the Amir and HE President of Rwanda as a confirmation.
Kayinamura noted that the high-level dialogues between the two sides contributed to translating the mutual vision into tangible cooperation in various fields, expressing his confidence that this visit would constitute an additional incentive to strengthen the existing alliance, enhance economic and development partnerships, and open new horizons for cooperation in a way that achieves common prosperity for the Qatari and Rwandan peoples.
The Ambassador indicated that the visit will address several files that have witnessed remarkable development, most notably: the aviation sector, infrastructure, logistics, agriculture, food security, technology, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building programs that have provided quality opportunities for Rwandan youth.
The talks will also address expanding economic cooperation to include renewable energy and digital innovation, building on the strong foundation that has been built in recent years, he added, expressing optimism that a number of new agreements and memoranda of understanding could be signed during the visit, which supports the growing momentum in relations between the two countries. He described the development of relations as exceptional, noting that it reflects the political will and shared vision.
Kayinamura highlighted some of the memoranda of understanding and agreements signed between Qatar and Rwanda, the most important of which is the Bugesera International Airport project, which is one of the most prominent joint strategic projects, and will contribute to strengthening Rwanda’s economic interdependence and making it a pivotal gateway to the East African region.
Direct flights between the two countries have had a significant impact on stimulating passenger traffic and boosting the absorption capacity of high-value Rwandan exports such as coffee and horticultural products, he added.
Cooperation also includes mechanisms for exchanging expertise in governance and combating corruption, along with knowledge-sharing programs, he said, stressing that what distinguishes bilateral relations is the alignment of values between the two countries, as both sides place paramount importance on good governance, human development, and stability, placing them at the forefront of their priorities.
Kayinamura said that Qatar’s expertise in investment, finance and world-class infrastructure development is perfectly integrated with Rwanda’s innovation- and reform-based economy, noting that there is a great potential to expand cooperation in areas such as Kigali Innovation City (KIC), which aims to establish Rwanda as a leading technology hub in Africa.
