QBA discusses economic cooperation with Brazil President

Doha: At the invitation of Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser Al Thani, QBA Board member, the Qatari Businessmen Association organised a private dinner in honour of President of the Federal Republic of Brazil H E Jair Bolsonaro and his accompanying delegation. The private dinner was attended by Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, QBA Chairman and Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber, and Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Qatar H E Luiz Alberto, in addition to CEO of the Qatar Financial Centre Yousuf Al Jaidah. This was during the official visit of the President to the country to discuss ways to enhance economic relations in the various sectors.

From the Qatari Businessmen Association, the dinner was attended by QBA Board member Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal Al Thani. From QBA members the dinner was attended by Nasser Al Haider, Khaled Al Mannai, Nabil Abu Issa, Ashraf Abu Issa, Moataz Al Khayat, Muhammad Althaf, Ihsan Al Khaymi, Sheikh Turki bin Faisal al Thani and Sarah Abdullah, QBA Deputy GM also attended.Also from the board of Qatar Chamber, Mohamed Sultan al Jaber and Mohamed Al Obeidly attended the dinner along with Essam Nemr Abed.

From the accompanying delegation of H E the President, the dinner was attended by Carlos Alberto Franco França, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Walter Braga Netto, Minister of Defense, Gilson Machado, Minister of Tourism, Augusto Heleno Ribeiro Pereira, Minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, Célio Faria Júnior, Chief of Staff of the Presidency, Mario Frias, Special Secretary of Culture and Ambassador Kenneth Félix Haczynski da Nóbrega, Vice-Minister for Middle East, Europe and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

For his part, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani welcomed the Brazilian President and the high-level delegation accompanying him. He also expressed the interest of Qatari businessmen in cooperating and partnering with Brazilian businessmen who have achieved global success and reputation, praising the importance of the Brazilian market, rich in investment opportunities in the different economic sectors and its pivotal role as one of the largest markets in South America.

In return, President of the Federal Republic of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro, expressed his happiness with the dinner invitation and the warm welcome he received during his visit, adding, “I am sure that this visit will be fruitful in terms of developing investment relations between the two countries and encouraging businessmen from both sides to cooperate together.” The President also affirmed that the delegation accompanying him, which includes several ministers, is fully prepared to provide support to any investor or businessman wishing to explore investment opportunities in Brazil. The President also praised the economic prosperity he witnessed in the State of Qatar and the preparations for the 2022 World Cup. He also extended an invitation to Qatari businessmen to visit Brazil.

Yousuf Al Jaidah presented an overview about QFC and the services it provides to encourage foreign investors, and the opportunities it has for local and international companies to support them in establishing their businesses and engage in a wide range of activities within a legal and regulatory framework that is in line with Best international practices. 

In his welcome note, Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser Al Thani, said, “We, the Qatari Businessmen Association, are pleased to receive the country that has won the most World Cups, stressing out the importance of exchanging experiences between the two sides regarding the organization of sports events, especially as we are close to hosting the world cup next year.” Sheikh Nawaf also spoke about the interest of Qatari businessmen to learn about the Brazilian market, pointing out that the Qatari private sector is always looking forward to exploring and searching for new opportunities.

At the end of the meeting, Sheikh Faisal, Sheikh Nawaf and Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim presented gifts to the President, hoping that this visit would achieve its goals in developing economic relations.
