Doha: Qatar is expected to receive light rains tomorrow and Wednesday, increasing to heavier spells over the weekend, according to Qatar Meteorology Department.
The weather changes, driven by an atmospheric pressure variation, will bring in strong winds and high seas, the department has warned.
The MET department has urged people to be cautious and avoid sea activities until Saturday.
The upcoming downpours are because of atmospheric instability caused by low pressure.
“From Tuesday, there will be an extension of low pressure in the upper atmosphere. This instability will increase by the end of the week, shifting winds to strong South Easterly which is favourable for rains,” Abdullah Mohammed Al Mannai, Acting Director of the Department of Meteorology, Civil Aviation Authority, told The Peninsula. “The amount of rains can’t be predicted, however, it will be of variable intensity becoming heavy and thundery at times, by the end of the week.”
The rains are expected to bring down the temperature significantly, according to the Met official. Tomorrow weather will be hazy at first becoming mild during daytime with some local clouds and weak chances of light rain. It will be relatively cold by night, according to the forecast. The temperature will vary between 30 and 21 degrees Celsius in Doha, but may plunge to 16 degrees in Mesaieed.
The sea will experience high waves ranging from 7 to 10 feet at times going up to 13 feet in some areas, according to MET Department.
