DOHA: The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), a global initiative of Qatar Foundation, will feature local educational institutions by introducing a new segment at its 2015 summit, according to senior officials.
More than 10 Qatari educational institutions will feature at the new ‘Qatar Zone’ of the summit and give participants opportunity to learn more about their innovative work. The annual summit from November 3 to 5 brings together more than 1,500 innovators from around the world, including educational practitioners, representatives of governments, NGOs, business leaders, and social entrepreneurs. “A new feature in Wise 2015 is a Qatar Zone featuring more than 10 local educational organisations. It aims to give more exposure to these institutions,” Ali Al Mahmoud, Head of Operations, WISE, told the media yesterday.
Qatari organisations invited to participate in the event include Qatar Foundation, Supreme Education Council (SEC), Teach for Qatar, Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar Solar Technologies, ROTA, INJAZ Qatar, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, Qatar National Research Fund, Qatar Academy, QF’s Education Development Institute, Education Above All and Doha Global Shapers Community.
“This is an important moment for WISE, we are proactively reaching out and partnering with local educational organisations,” said Stavros Yiannouka, CEO, WISE. “WISE provides an opportunity for our partners in Qatar to engage with some of the most creative and innovative education thinkers and practitioners from around the world. At the same time, our partner institutions provide critical support to WISE in identifying key issues that inform our research agenda and debates,” he added.
In another new feature this year, WISE will reveal series of reports by leading researchers from Qatar and around the world. The reports will feature action-oriented policy research on key topics relevant to the theme of the summit, ‘Investing for Impact: Quality Education for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.’
Separately, in partnership with the SEC, the summit will offer Qatar-based students in the 12-14 age group and their teachers opportunity to participate in the Learning Lab, a new feature of the summit dedicated to innovative and interactive method of teaching. Many segments this year will address the link between education and the economy and how to reinforce weak education systems, open opportunities to new players and develop a calibre of people to fit the job market.
Sessions and plenaries will be on the UN Sustainable Development Goals; education and the economy; and fostering innovation in education systems.
