Doha, Qatar: The Public Prosecution, represented by the Criminal Studies Institute, has organised a specialised training course on juvenile justice in light of international standards, in cooperation with the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights in Italy.
Held at the Public Prosecution’s headquarters in Doha, the four-day course brings together 25 members of the Public Prosecution.
The training programme covers a range of legal and human rights issues related to juvenile justice, including the concept of juvenile criminal justice and different legal frameworks. It also examines mechanisms for protecting children at various stages, whether they are victims, offenders or at risk.
The programme further examines legal safeguards during investigations and trials, alternatives to traditional penal measures, non-custodial measures and standards for institutional reform. It further examines the roles of the Public Prosecution, judiciary and civil society organisations in advancing juvenile justice in line with the latest frameworks.
The course forms part of the Public Prosecution’s efforts to develop the capabilities of its legal personnel, strengthen cooperation with leading international institutes, and facilitate the exchange of expertise and international best practices.
It also aims to enhance participants’ practical and theoretical skills to improve the quality and efficiency of investigations and support the timely resolution of juvenile cases.
