Doha: The Qatar Photography Centre, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, organised a special event to mark World Photography Day, observed annually on August 19. The event featured a photography exhibition as well as a professional photography studio.

The exhibition, which will run for one month, features a diverse collection of works by 34 photographers who are members of the Qatar Photography Centre, comprising 50 photographs that reflect the diversity of photographic fields and the participants’ different perspectives and artistic styles.

The event is part of the Qatar Photography Centre’s efforts to support photography in the State of Qatar and to promote the work and creativity of local photographers, thereby enriching the country’s cultural and artistic landscape.

Director of the Qatar Photography Centre, Jassim Ahmed Al Buainain, commented on the occasion, saying that World Photography Day was an important opportunity to celebrate photographers and their creativity, and to highlight the role of photography in documentation, expression, and the conveyance of stories and emotions. He stressed that the centre is committed to providing platforms that enable photographers to showcase their work and engage with the public.

He noted that this year’s celebration brought together the creativity of the centre’s photographers and public engagement. The centre also set up a professional photography studio for visitors to introduce them to the importance of lighting and professional equipment in producing photographs.

Al Buainain affirmed that the Qatar Photography Centre would continue its efforts to support photographers and photographic talent in Qatar and provide programmes, events and exhibitions that contribute to developing their skills and strengthening the role of photography as an important means of documentation, expression and communication.
