QNA

Doha: President of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani has offered his full support to the Iraqi city of Basra to host the 25th edition of the Gulf Cup.

The tournament will be played from January 6 to 19, 2023.

Sheikh Hamad said the AGCFF was firmly behind the people of Iraq as they prepared to organise the special edition of the tournament. He said the AGCFF is fully aware of the Iraqi fans’ aspiration to host the tournament after a long gap.

“We’ve seen the progress made in building of infrastructure and other facilities in our inspection visits to the city and we’re fully confident of the Iraq Football Association’s ability to present the tournament in the best way possible,” Sheikh Hamad said.

The AGCFF confirmed the eligibility of Basra to host the event in its last meeting.
