Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) stressed that it stands side by side with all humanitarian partners around the world, noting the importance of humanitarian action in conflict and disaster areas and that civilians who are exposed to conflict are not targets.
This came in a statement issued by Qatar Red Crescent on the occasion of the World Humanitarian Day which falls on August 19 each year and is celebrated this year by national humanitarian societies and UN organizations under the theme “Not A Target”.
Qatar Red Crescent said that since the beginning of this year, the scope of its relief and development projects and activities outside Qatar has exceeded $30m in more than 15 countries with the support of several partners and donors, first and foremost the Qatar Development Fund, UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the International Organization for Migration, United Nations Children’s Fund and Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
One of the most Qatar Red Crescent’s achievements was the completion of wheat harvest in eight Syrian governorates with a budget exceeding $6m, in addition to the participation of several national charitable organizations in Aleppo campaign which contributed to the provision of various medical, food and relief aid worth QR290m.
Qatar Red Crescent’s mission in Iraq provided assistance to displaced people in Mosul and surrounding areas worth $3m in the sectors of shelter, health care, water, sanitation and food and non-food assistance.
It allocated $400,000 to the medical sector in the occupied Jerusalem by providing medicines, medical consumables and ambulances to the Palestinian Red Crescent and to meet the needs of the Emergency and Surgical Department of Makassed Hospital. It also allocated a total budget of $224,000 for 120 patients with phenylketonuria (PKU).
