Doha: Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) is launching its summer program, "Care Summer", at the beginning of August 2026. The program aims to offer a free field training experience for male and female students—both citizens and residents—aged 12 to 18 from public and private schools in Qatar, across six health centers located in various areas.
The program will run from Monday, August 3, to Wednesday, August 26, 2026, operating three days a week (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday). Training is split into two daily shifts; morning shift from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and evening shift from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, totaling 12 training days and 36 field training hours.
Six Health Centers Hosting the Program
PHCC has designated three health centers for male students - Al Sadd, Al Wajba and Umm Slal - and three health centers for female students - Al Thumama, Muaither, and Leabaib - enabling participants to benefit from training in a realistic health environment.
Attracting Talent to Health Professions
The "Care Summer" program aims to enhance community engagement by utilizing the summer break for meaningful training activity. It helps students develop their skills, refine their abilities, and direct their energy toward positive activities that build their character, alongside helping them think and plan wisely for their futures.
This program aligns with PHCC's commitment to preparing and qualifying student talent for the future job market. By introducing students to the nature of work within health centers, giving them hands-on health tasks, and exposing them to various sections, services, and career opportunities in medicine and public health, the program seeks to inspire them to pursue healthcare careers.
Furthermore, the program enhances student awareness of various health professions through direct practical experience that opens up new horizons regarding this vital sector. It also introduces the services provided by PHCC and its health centers, creating a positive effect as students share their training experiences with their families.
The program also serves as an opportunity to highlight the “Anti-Violence” campaign directed at health center staff by educating participants on the vital role of healthcare workers, the importance of respecting and appreciating their efforts, the challenges they face, and the legal provisions protecting workers' rights in the State of Qatar.
Online Registration
Registration for the program will be conducted online via a link to be published by the Corporation on its official social media platforms. The link will provide program information, guidelines, and regulations, allowing students to select their preferred health center and training shift. Registration requires parental consent along with a copy of the parent’s Qatari ID card.
A Diverse Training Program
The program introduces participants to PHCC, its key services, and its network of health centers, complemented by a field tour inside the center to explore various sections and services.
Students will also experience the patient journey within the health center—starting from booking an appointment, passing through triage, registration, and initial examinations, up to seeing the family physician and departing the health center.
The program highlights several sections and services, including the reception and registration, Hayyak service, triage and initial assessment, family medicine clinics, specialize clinics such as mental health, nutrition and dentistry, alongside social work, laboratory, wellness services, and the pharmacy; the program is distributed across several days, tailored to the nature of each section.
Participating Departments
Coordination has been made with several internal departments to engage in the program, including the Occupational Health and Safety Department to deliver topics on recycling, workplace safety guidelines, and the anti-violence campaign, the Human Resources Department to introduces available career opportunities within the Corporation, and the Health Awareness and Promotion Department to deliver age-appropriate lectures and guidance on personal hygiene, healthy nutrition, dental health, and mental well-being.
Evaluation and Honoring Participants
Upon completing the program, certificates of appreciation will be awarded to participating students. These certificates will state the total training hours completed, allowing students to count them toward the required volunteer hours.
Enhancing Awareness and Belonging
The "Care Summer" program is expected to expand students' knowledge of health center services and operations, raise awareness about the challenges faced by healthcare workers and how to address them, and introduce available career paths. Additionally, the program aims to strengthen the PHCC’s role in community engagement and support students by providing field training opportunities that help develop their skills and prepare them for the future.
