Qatar backs refugees in Iraqi Kurdistan

Arbil: Masoud Barzani, President of Kurdistan Region of Iraq, yesterday met Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah in Arbil.
Talks dealt with relations between Qatar and Kurdistan Region, ways of enhancing them and matters of common interest.
Dr Al Attiyah affirmed Qatar’s keenness to boost cooperation and relations, especially in the economic and investment fields and wished the region stability, growth and prosperity.
They also discussed the situation of displaced Iraqi people and Syrian refugees in Arbil where Qatar, in coordination with official entities, has provided material support to alleviate their suffering. Barzani thanked the government and people of Qatar for support. Following directives of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani coinciding Eid Al Fitr holidays, Qatar provided support for displaced people and refugees.


In a statement, Dr Al Attiyah stressed that the initiative was part of Qatar’s continued efforts to support and provide humanitarian assistance for those affected by the tragic situation, especially in Syria and Iraq.
He said support was extended in coordination and supervision of official authorities in Arbil.
