DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has launched an innovative programme for its overweight or obese Qatari and expatriate employees to help them reduce weight during Ramadan.
The programme is being implemented in collaboration with Primary Healthcare Corporation (PHCC). Participants’ weight will be measured at a primary health centre and they will be given tips by PHCC dieticians on nutrition and healthy eating habits to fight overweight and obesity.
The ministry has selected Ramadan for the initiative apparently because it would be easier for people to implement guidelines as many would be fasting for long hours.
After Ramadan, participants’ Body Mass Index will be measured again to see how much calories they have burnt in one month.
