Qatar warns of kids’ suffering in armed conflict areas

New York: Qatar yesterday expressed concern at conditions of children in areas of conflicts, particularly in Palestine and Syria.
This came in Qatar’s statement during a Security Council session to discuss the UN secretary-general’s report on children and armed conflict areas.
It said Qatar prioritised guaranteeing education to children in areas of conflict, as part of its commitment to education and its positive impact on children.
This commitment was reflected in Education Above All Foundation that aims to protect, support and promote the right to education in crises, conflicts and war zones.
Qatar participated in the Oslo conference on school safety last May and endorsed the Oslo Declaration.
Acting charge d’affaires in Qatar’s delegation to the UN Yousef Sultan Laram said in the statement during the council’s session that Qatar stresses its call for preventing attacks against schools and using them for military purposes.
Laram said the world has realised that providing a safe environment for children is the building block for global stability and security. QNA
