New Delhi: A comment made by an Indian judge comparing ordinary citizens to “cockroaches” has triggered widespread criticism and satire online, leading to the emergence of a mock political movement dubbed the “Cockroach Janta Party.”

The controversy erupted after the judge’s remarks circulated widely on social media platforms, prompting users to create memes, posters, parody slogans, and fictional party campaigns.

The satirical movement quickly gained traction online, with many users using humor to express frustration and criticism over what they viewed as an insensitive statement.

On Thursday, May 21, the CJP's Instagram account crossed 18 million followers.

According to an Al Jazeera report, the phrase “Cockroach Janta Party” has since spread across digital platforms, becoming one of the latest examples of political satire gaining momentum in India’s online space.

Activists and commentators cited by Al Jazeera said the viral reaction reflects growing public willingness to challenge controversial public remarks through humor and internet culture.
