DOHA: Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is leading a delegation of 14 destination management companies, professional conference organisers, hotels and other venues to IMEX Frankfurt this week.
Considered one of the largest gatherings of professionals in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) world, the event attracts nearly 15,000 event agencies, corporate meeting planners and other key stakeholders.
With an online platform that allows attendees to schedule appointments with each other in advance, over 65,000 B2B meetings are expected to take place.
According to Hamad Al Abdan, Director of Exhibitions, QTA, Qatar has invested heavily in empowering the private sector to create and attract innovative and attractive events, congresses, conferences and exhibitions, allowing dozens of large-scale events held in Doha to earn accreditation from ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association).
“Our strategy to increase the number of tourists flocking to Qatar by 20 percent places a great emphasis on MICE, and with our partners in the private sector we have worked to ensure we have infrastructure to make this plan a reality,” said Al Abdan.
“It’s an exciting period of growth for Qatar, and we are more than ready to welcome business events, meetings and large conventions.” The delegation includes Qatar Airways, Qatar National Convention Centre, Qatar MICE Development Institute, Marriot Marquis, Sheraton Doha, Kempinski Marsa Malaz – the Pearl, Intercontinental The City, The St. Regis Doha, Doha Marriot Hotel, La Cigale Doha, Arabian Adventures Qatar, Gulf Adventures, Travel Designer and UTA Engage.
