QR2.36m Arabic novel prize winners named

DOHA: Katara yesterday announced winners of the first edition of its Arabic novel prize worth a total of $650,000 (about QR2.36m).

The five winners in the category of published novels are: Ameer Tajassir from Sudan, Muneera Sawar from Bahrain, Nasira Al Sadoun from Iraq, Ibrahim Abdul Majeed from Egypt and Wasinee Al Araj from Algeria. Each one gets $60,000 (about QR218,490).
The five winners for unpublished novels are: Jalal Barjis from Jordan, Abdul Jaleel Al Tuhami from Morocco, Maisaloon Hadi from Iraq, Zakaria Abu Maria from Morocco and Samih Al Jabbas from Egypt. Each one gets $30,000 (about QR109,200). Katara will make a film or drama from the best novel slelected from the list.
