381 graduate from six QU colleges

Deputy Emir and Chairman of Board of Regents at Qatar University H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani attended the graduation ceremony of the batch of 2015 of Qatar University’s male students at Qatar National Conventions Centre yesterday.

DOHA: Qatar University’s Class of 2015 celebrated the graduation of 381 male students from six colleges at a ceremony graced by Deputy Emir and Chairman of QU Board of Regents H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani.
He also honoured 33 outstanding students who achieved GPA of 3.50 and above. 
Students received their certificates from QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad and the deans of the colleges, in the presence of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Minister of Information and Communications Technology H E Dr Hessa Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs H E Dr Abdullah Saleh Mubarak Al Khulaifi, high-level leaders of top organisations in Qatar, QU vice-presidents and associate VPs, deans, heads of departments, faculty, staff, alumni, students’ relatives and guests.
The graduates comprised 300 bachelors, 79 masters, one PhD and one PharmD. Undergraduate degrees by college were: 46 Arts and Sciences (CAS), 84 Business & Economics (CBE), 124 Engineering (CENG), 22 Law (LAWC), and 24 Shariah & Islamic Studies (CSIS). 
Graduate degrees by college were 10 CAS, 17 CBE, five CED, 32 CENG, one CPH and 16 CSIS.
Congratulating the students, Prof Al Misnad said, “We are proud of you for achieving this milestone of a lifetime which highlights your hard work, commitment and dedication. 
“You will embark on a new and exciting phase of your life as you prepare to join the labour market and pursue other endeavours.
“We have no doubt that you will continue to serve as loyal ambassadors of the university by utilising knowledge, skills and experiences you have acquired during your academic journey.
“As you start your career, my advice is that you stay committed to lifelong learning. We believe in your capacities and strength to overcome workplace and other challenges and contribute to Qatar’s progress and development.”
She praised the Emir’s visionary leadership and support and said: “QU has accomplished successes such as achieving accreditation, increasing the number of graduate programmes and research projects based on community needs, which support national priorities and development strategies for sustainability, health, information technology, social sciences and identity.”
Valedictorian Ahmed Al Faridooni from College of Law congratulated his counterparts  and said: “We’ve waited for this moment since we were school students, and today we are starting a new phase in our lives. We overcame challenges to realise this successful chapter and we thank QU which gave us high-quality education and opportunities to excel and unlock our potential, our parents for continuous support and sacrifice, and our professors for guidance and contribution to developing our academic and professional abilities and capacities.”            The Peninsula
