Doha: Ooredoo yesterday launched the USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) Service for business, to allow companies to offer their customers a range of existing services on a fully-supported USSD driven-menu that customers can access via their mobile phone.
Business USSD is a communications channel that offers interactive capabilities supported by all kinds of mobile phones, from the basic handsets, to flagship smartphones, requires no mobile data connection and the functionality will be the same even while roaming, and thanks to its menu-driven features the service is easy on resources.
USSD is predominantly used for services such as m-banking and m-payments, as well as customer care, polling and info. By launching the service, Ooredoo is offering every company in Qatar the chance to offer mobile account management services – a major step forward in terms of convenience and access.
QNB was the first company to deploy this service from Ooredoo, creating a bespoke USSD that enabled customers to check their account balance, transfer money and access a host of self-service options on any smartphone or feature phone in 2014.
Waleed Al Sayed, Chief Operating Officer, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “We’re working with many of Qatar’s leading companies to enable them to deliver better customer service via mobile. Our new USSD service offers more choice, accessibility and convenience for customers and is now available to all businesses in Qatar. As more and more people look to manage their accounts via their mobile phone, we believe this service will add an important competitive element for companies.”
Ooredoo’s USSD service enables businesses to offer their customers a flexible approach to self-service options. USSD services are particularly useful for customers with limited access to online services, providing them with a full range of options even on older handsets.
The launch of the new USSD service is the latest in a series of initiatives from Ooredoo, as the company continues to enhance technological and communication infrastructure to launch new and improved services for Qatar’s businesses.
