An international conference currently being held in Jakarta and Bandung, West of Java, Indonesia, has bought Filipina Mary Jane Veloso time for the Philippine government and migrant groups to explore available legal options to stay her execution set on Friday after the 60th Bandung conference shall have ended.
At least 34 heads of state from 77 participating countries are attending the conference which started Sunday and will end Thursday, April 23.
Migrante chairperson Garry Martinez said the migrant group will troop to the local embassies of representatives from Asia and African countries taking part in the Bandung conference in efforts to generate international pressure to intervene and stop the execution of Veloso who has been found guilty of drug trafficking in Indonesia.
“We appeal to all world leaders attending the Bandung Conference to join the international clamor to stop Mary Jane’s execution,” Martinez said.
“Supporters of the #SaveMaryJaneVeloso campaign will be trooping to various embassies to enjoin heads of state to appeal to President Widodo to spare her life,” he added.
Migrante said the Indonesian government decided to defer the execution of Veloso until the conclusion of the Bandung Conference on Friday.
