The Ministry of Municipality and Environment yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation with an aim to promote environmental awareness among students and people through educational programmes and events.

The MoU was signed by H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, Minister of Municipality and Environment and Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation.

It aims to spread environmental and agricultural awareness at schools aligned with Qatar Vision 2030, and achieve sustainable development.

The MoU includes a number of awareness programmes such as the ‘plant Qatar program.’ The MoU signing ceremony was also attended by Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture and Fisheries and Mohammed Ali Al Khoury, Director, Public Parks Department, Abdullatif Al Yafei, General Manager of Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation and Ali Talal Mar’e, Executive Director of the Foundation.

“We thank the Ministry of Municipality and Environment for giving us this opportunity to spread awareness about tree planting culture among students. Educating students and children on how to plant trees in their home gardens is considered part of food security,” Sheikh Faisal said. “We want to make children the producers and not just consumers. The ministry has provided all facilities to spread awareness about planting. The Foundation supported planting at homes by encouraging children,” he added.

The Foundation also announced the launch of a competition among students for best home farm. The details of the competition will be announced in the coming days.
