Al Rayyan striker Rodrigo Tabata celebrates after scoring his 100th goal in Qatar.
Feared striker Rodrigo Tabata yesterday scored his 100th goal in Qatar as Al Rayyan sailed to a 4-2 win over Al Arabi in round 8 of QNB Stars League.
Tabata, who converted an easy penalty for his side’s second goal in the 32nd minute, celebrated his historic strike by reaching out to a club official holding a jersey marking his century of goals in Qatar.
Veteran striker Sebastian Soria (8), Abderrazak Hamdallah (59) and Gonzalo Viera (73) were the other main scorers for Al Rayyan at Grand Hamad Stadium.
For hosts Al Arabi, Iraqi defender Saad Natik Naji scored two goals to reduce the deficit (71 and 84).
For Al Rayyan, Soria opened the scoring with an edgy tap into Al Arabi net in the 8th minute from close range. Soon after the half-hour mark, Soria was brought down by an Al Arabi defender and the referee promptly pointed to the spot. Tabata easily slotted the ball home to complete his milestone goal.
Tabata also created the chance for his team’s fourth goal when Viera headed home on a free-kick fired by the star striker.
