Doha: Qatar University (QU) has announced the launch of its research priorities for 2025-2030 as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance its position as a leading national institution in academic and research excellence with a prestigious global reputation.

Through these priorities, the university aims to elevate the national scientific research system and direct research efforts toward research axes that align with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, including human, social, economic, and environmental development.

These priorities embody a comprehensive strategy designed to drive research and innovation, promote sustainability, and enhance QU's role in serving society through five main research pillars: Health, Energy, Digital Technology, Resource Sustainability, and Society.

On the occasion of launching the research priorities, President of QU, Dr. Omar Al Ansari stated: "We are proud to launch our research priorities for the period 2025-2030, which reflect QU's commitment to producing impactful knowledge that serves society.

These priorities also contribute to building an integrated system for scientific research governance by investing research resources and directing them effectively toward achieving impact in various sectors. This approach enhances the university's contribution to achieving Qatar's national goals and establishing its global position in research and innovation.

"Through these priorities, QU continues to affirm its role as a beacon of scientific research that looks toward future horizons, contributes to fostering a knowledge-based society, and supports the national aspirations for comprehensive and sustainable development. It is a clear roadmap toward a brighter future for the State of Qatar, reflecting our continued commitment to excellence and leadership in scientific research and innovation fields."

For his part, QU's Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, Prof. Aiman Erbad emphasized that colleges and research centers play a pivotal role in implementing these research priorities through strategic planning, directing research efforts, and aligning research grants and graduate programs with the specified priorities.

He added that QU continues to promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, student participation in research projects, and building strategic local and international partnerships with academic and industrial institutions to achieve qualitative results with tangible impact in various scientific and innovative fields and elevates the quality of higher education and its research outputs.

In turn, Director of Research Planning and Development at the Research and Graduate Studies Sector, Prof. Bassem Hammadi explained that the updated research priorities were developed based on a precise scientific methodology that relied on Qatar's Third National Development Strategy and the strategies of relevant ministries. The process also included reviewing the university's previous priorities (2021-2025), aligning them with global research trends, using Scopus database indicators, and analyzing the research capabilities of QU researchers.

Prof. Hammadi explained that the new priorities focus on five research pillars that align with national needs and global challenges, aiming to build a research future based on innovation that serves the state's priorities.
