Cairo: The Arab Parliament’s Palestine Committee discussed yesterday the escalations in Palestine, the most recent of which was the occupation forces bombing of the Al Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, in a meeting held at the Arab Parliament Headquarters in Cairo. Shura Council Member and member of the Palestine Committee Shaikha bint Yousuf Al Jufairi represented the State of Qatar at the meeting.
Al Jufairi stressed that the recent expansion of Israeli attacks in Gaza to include civilian facilities like hospitals and schools, and the killing of children, the elderly, women, and populated areas is a grave escalation that portends dire consequences for the security and stability of the region.
She slammed the Israeli occupation’s bombing of the Baptist hospital as a brutal massacre and heinous crime against defenceless civilians, and a blatant violation of the provisions of international law and international humanitarian law.
Al Jufairi also highlighted the State of Qatar’s firm position, since the beginning of the current crisis, on the justice of the Palestinian issue and the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, most notably the establishment of its independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, noting the active Qatari role in attempts to find solutions to the current crisis.
She called on all parliaments of the world to condemn and denounce these actions, and to put pressure on governments to condemn them, given Israels noncompliance of international agreements and international resolutions issued by the United Nations.
She stressed the need to bind Israel to international agreements and document its crimes in order to prosecute its leaders for violating the laws of war and relevant agreements at the International Criminal Court.
The attendees stressed their categorical rejection of the liquidation of the Palestinian cause and their support and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
