DOHA: The Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of Supreme Education Council (SEC) H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi opened the sixth Qatar International College Fair at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) yesterday.
Rabia bin Mohammed Al Kaabi, undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education was also present along with a number of educational experts and members of the diplomatic corps. In his opening address, the minister said that the SEC is keen to organise the event on an annual basis.
He said the exhibition has provided an international platform for universities and higher education institutions to attract Qatari and non-Qatari students. Its aim is to support students and prepare them at an early stage for university education and familiarise them with different academic options. The exhibition will give (the exhibitors) a chance to be in touch with students and their parents and to understand their interests and concerns, in addition to developing partnerships with educational institutions in Qatar, said the minister.
Meanwhile, the US embassy said yesterday that 38 American universities are participating in the exhibition. The number of Qataris studying in the US rose by 20 percent last year, compared to the previous year. Qataris currently study in 39 American universities, said a statement.
