London: Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory over Everton on Saturday in the opening of Matchday 5 in the English Premier League.
The defending champions, Liverpool, extended their lead at the top of the table thanks to goals from Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch in the 10th minute and French forward Hugo Ekitike in the 29th minute. Everton's only goal came from Idrissa Gueye, who scored in the 58th minute.
With this win, Liverpool increased their points tally to 15, remaining undefeated in the first five rounds. Everton, meanwhile, stayed in seventh place with 7 points, temporarily, pending the completion of the remaining matches.
