Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, represented by its Mosques Department, has opened the Mothers of the Believers Mosque in the Hazm Al Markhiya area as part of its ongoing efforts to expand the network of mosques and prayer facilities across Qatar.

The ministry said the initiative aims to provide religious services to residential communities in line with the country’s urban and population growth.

The mosque and its associated facilities were built on a 544-square-metre plot and include accommodation for the muezzin. It was designed according to modern engineering standards to provide an integrated environment for worshippers.

The mosque was endowed by philanthropist Ghanem bin Saad Al Saad Al Kuwari, whom the ministry commended for his contribution to supporting the construction of houses of worship and strengthening their role as centres for prayer, remembrance and Quranic recitation.

The ministry described the endowment as an enduring charitable contribution that will continue to benefit the community, praying that it will be accepted as a lasting source of reward for the donor. The mosque is a congregational prayer mosque with a total capacity of 144 worshippers. Its main prayer hall can accommodate 120 men, while a dedicated women’s prayer area has capacity for 24 women.

The facility also includes ablution areas, other essential services and a minaret featuring an Islamic architectural design consistent with the character of mosques across Qatar.

The ministry said the project supports the objectives of its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, which focuses on developing mosque infrastructure, improving the efficiency of religious services and providing integrated worship facilities capable of meeting the needs arising from urban expansion and population growth.

The project also aligns with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs continues to implement its expansion plans for mosques, prayer facilities and accommodation for imams and muezzins across Qatar, in accordance with approved engineering and technical standards.

The ministry’s Engineering Affairs Department oversees the construction and maintenance of mosques and imam accommodation, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and standards for quality, efficiency and sustainability.
