Doha, Qatar: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) illuminated the Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor in red yesterday evening to mark World Humanitarian Day, honouring the State of Qatar’s pioneering humanitarian efforts around the world.
In a post on its official X account, Ashghal said the lighting initiative was carried out in conjunction with the global observance, which falls on August 19 each year. The red illumination was intended as a tribute to Qatar’s leading role in humanitarian work and to reinforce the values of solidarity and humanitarian giving.
The move forms part of broader activities across Qatar marking the day under the global #ActForHumanity campaign. World Humanitarian Day commemorates the dedication of aid workers and draws attention to the needs of people affected by crises and disasters worldwide.
Qatar has long been recognised for its substantial contributions to humanitarian and development assistance in conflict and disaster zones. Institutions such as Qatar Charity and the Qatar Red Crescent Society continue to deliver large-scale relief and development programmes in multiple countries.
The lighting of a major traffic corridor in the capital’s colours of solidarity offers a visible public expression of the nation’s commitment. Photographs released by Ashghal showed the Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor bathed in red light, creating a striking visual statement along one of Doha’s key roadways.
The gesture aligns with other official messages issued on the day by Qatari institutions, reaffirming the country’s steadfast support for communities in need and its respect for the work of humanitarian personnel.
Ashghal’s initiative underscores how public infrastructure can be used to highlight national values and international solidarity on significant global occasions.
