Manila: Philippine Airlines said Monday it plans to acquire up to 20 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner jets, its first order from the US manufacturer in nearly 20 years.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding for the acquisition of 15 of the fuel-efficient aircraft "with an opportunity for five more", the airline said in a statement, without revealing the cost of the deal.
The first of the wide-body aircraft is to be delivered in 2031.
"The Boeing 787-10 will strengthen our medium and long-haul fleet," Lucio Tan, president and chief operating officer of the flag carrier's parent firm PAL Holdings, said in the statement.
The memorandum of understanding, announced at an international airshow in Britain, marks the airline's first Boeing order since 2007, it said.
Philippine Airlines's international fleet consists mainly of Airbus jets, though it also uses the Boeing 777-300ER for long-haul destinations, it said on its website.
Several key Boeing suppliers such as Moog, Rockwell Collins and JAMCO have production facilities in the Philippines, the airline's statement said.
