The Cultural Village Foundation Katara yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Al-Shabhana Association.
The MoU was signed by Katara General, Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti and the Co-Founder of Al Shabhana Association, Abdullah Khalid Al Khater, at a press conference held at Katara’s Amphitheatre yesterday. “This partnership is sought to enhance the cultural scene, the environmental sector, and to promote knowledge on planting and the environment,” said Dr Al Sulaiti.
He added: “Katara is keen to promote environmental aspects while highlighting the importance of biodiversity, the cultivation and desert trees, especially the black tree, which is a renowned regional plant that is planted in different places in the deserts of Qatar, and is characterised by its unique shape, strength, stability and the ability to exist in different environmental conditions.”
Al Khater, said:“This collaboration comes to achieve a set of goals, which includes proclaiming the black tree to be the national tree of Qatar and promote planting it in different places within the country. This type of tree is chosen to symbolise Qatar as it entails elements that represent the Qatari citizens and the current condition of Qatar.”
