Al Mina Pearl Diving Competition begins at Katara Beach tomorrow

The 5th edition of Al Mina Pearl Diving Competition for children will start tomorrow, June 21 from Katara Beach wherein 168 contestants between the ages of 10-15 years old are participating.
The participants are divided into 12 teams, each of which includes 14 participants, where each team is accompanied by Nukhatha and Majdami and Rdif,
Saeed Al Kuwari, the supervisor of the competition, said: “The fifth edition of the Al Mina competition will start from Katara Beach at 4pm on Wednesday, where the participating children will gather at Gate No. 16, Beach No. 2, and the competition will run until Friday, which is the day when the closing ceremony (Al-Qaffal).”
He explained that this event is a heritage tradition that restores the features of the Qatari folklore and documents the relationship of generations with their authentic maritime heritage.
Al Kuwari added that the participating teams will be divided into three categories: “diving, hadaq, and fishing,” pointing out that the return to the beach on the first day will be at 6pm, to perform the Maghrib prayer and visit the Museum of Traditional Bearings in Katara to learn about the bearings in the museum. Traditional and ancient means and tools were used in fishing and pearl diving, which gives the children participating in the competition an opportunity to discover their maritime heritage and the history of their ancestors full of challenges and championships.”
Moreover, Al Kuwari stressed that the establishment of the Mina competition contributes to linking children and youth with their maritime heritage through interesting and exciting activities that simulate diving trips in the past. 
He explained that the Mina embodies an educational cruise in which children learn patience, perseverance, cooperation, noble values and positive behaviors, and train them to follow the example of their fathers and grandfathers and plant them in their minds. The sacrifices they made in difficult circumstances and natural challenges,
