Qatar slams Boko Haram attacks

Doha: Qatar has condemned Boko Haram attack in northeast Niger that killed 38 people, mostly children and women.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that such criminal acts aimed to destabilise security and stability, terrorise and kill innocents in contravention of values and principles of morality, humanity and divine laws. The ministry reiterated its stance on rejecting and renouncing violence and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and whatever motives and justifications.

Katara Ramadan Festival begins


Doha: Katara Ramadan Festival opened yesterday under the theme: I’jaz wa Injaz ‘Wonders and Achievements’.
A contest ‘Find Your Treasure’ for the second consecutive year also began and continues through out the holy month. 
It offers visitors a chance to win QR5,000 besides prizes. The contest was one of the biggest attractions last Ramadan.
To take part, visitors have to be at Katara between 9pm and 11pm every Friday. Participants will get a map of the cultural valley where prize boxes are hidden at different spots.
Contestants will have to locate the boxes using the map and would able to claim prizes. The map will change every Friday.
Events throughout Ramadan include workshops from 8pm at Building No. 19. Leading Islamic preachers will give lectures throughout the festival.

Girls’ forum now independent centre


Doha: The Ministry of Youth and Sports has decided that Doha Girls’ Forum, following Doha Youth Centre, becomes independent within the framework of the ministry’s plan to turn girls’ forums into centres and establish new ones for them in all areas.
Hamad Salem Mjeghir, Director, Youth Affairs Department at the ministry, announced the decision during a press conference with Horiyah Al Ajami, Executive Director of the centre. He said the decision represents a new beginning for youth work and the goal of transforming girls’ forums into centres is to make them independent in management and budget and enable them to practise activities freely. 
He stressed the ministry’s vision to empower young people and said the decision will increase girls’ administrative awareness and have a positive impact on them. QNA
