Doha: The General Directorate of Traffic has seized 892 vehicles since the beginning of Ramadan for violating traffic rules such as reckless driving, drifting, crossing red signals and driving without number plate among other violations, said a senior official at the Department.

Colonel Mohammad Radhi Al Hajri, Director of Media and Traffic Awareness Department, at the General Directorate of Traffic said that the traffic jam which some parts of Muaither is witnessing is because of the ongoing projects, but some of these projects are completed and some are still in the initial stages.

He said that the newly developed are wide with more lanes.

Al Hajri pointed out during a visit to majlis of Hamad Abdullah Al Athba, CMC member of constituency number 12 at Muaither, that the aim of department’s visit is to meet people of the constituency and listen to their complaints related to traffic. The meeting also aimed at extending communication and cooperation between the Department and the public.

He added that the General Directorate of Traffic is keen to be present everywhere through traffic patrols throughout the day and also prepared special programmes and meetings with truck drivers every week in cooperation with supporting partners to raise traffic awareness among them.

The meeting was attended by Captain Mohammed Sulaiman Al Hammadi, Head of Awareness and Traffic Culture and First Lieutenant Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Aawi, Head of Traffic Studies and Information Department, in addition to a number of people from the constituency.

The residents, in the meeting, complained of traffic jam demanding more traffic patrols, as well as they complained about excessive speed bumps on roads.

Colonel Al Hajri said that the increase in cultural/religious events during holy month of Ramadan accompanied by some celebrations and frequent market visits caused traffic congestion and jams and also Muaither is part of those areas which are witnessing development projects.

He pointed to one of the studies, carried out by the Section of Studies and Traffic Information, showing the impact of the work and engineering projects underway in the country on traffic congestion.
