Doha, Qatar: The Ministry Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, represented by its Mosques Department, has inaugurated the Abdullah bin Khabbab Jame Mosque in Al Wakrah, as part of its ongoing efforts to expand and develop mosques across the country.
Built on a land area of 3,631 square metres, the newly opened Jame Mosque can accommodate more than 2,400 worshippers, including both men and women. The mosque complex also includes a residence for the imam and accommodation for the muezzin (caller to prayer).
The mosque, endowed by Salem Hassan Mohammed Al Hammoud, is intended to serve as a centre for worship and community engagement, hosting daily prayers, remembrance, and Quranic recitation.
The initiative aligns with the ministry’s broader plan to meet the needs of Qatar’s growing population and urban expansion, in line with the country’s National Vision 2030.
The ministry highlighted that such charitable endowments represent one of the most rewarding forms of ongoing charity, offering continuous spiritual benefit. It expressed appreciation for the donor’s contribution and prayed for its acceptance and lasting reward.
Designated as Jame Mosque No. (MS 326), the facility features a main prayer hall along with an additional mezzanine-level hall, together accommodating up to 2,300 male worshippers. A separate prayer area for women can host 114 worshippers.
The mosque is equipped with a spacious ablution area and a large number of public parking spaces, including designated spots for people with disabilities. Entry and exit points have been carefully organized to ensure smooth access, and the mosque is crowned with a tall minaret.
The ministry’s Engineering Affairs Department is responsible for planning and providing mosque infrastructure across the country, including temporary mosques where needed, as well as overseeing maintenance plans, construction, and design standards. It also manages a comprehensive database of mosques, prayer spaces, and their staff.
Additionally, the ministry’s official website offers a geolocation feature that allows users to easily find mosque locations across Qatar using detailed and accurate maps, facilitating access for worshippers in all cities nationwide.
