Kahramaa, QEWC, Chubu Electric Power renew partnership

Doha: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and the Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) on the one hand, and the Japanese Chubu Electric Power Company on the other signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) renewing the partnership between Qatari and Japanese parties.

The ‘7th Renewable of the MoU on the Partnership Project’ among three parties was signed by President of Kahramaa, Eng Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari; General Manager of QEWC, Eng Mohammed bin Nasser Al Hajri, and President and Director of Chubu Electric Power Kingo Hayashi.

Al Kuwari praised the continuation of the cooperation between Kahramaa, QEWC and Chubu Electric Power.

“Our partnership with Chubu Electric Power has been extended for 15 years, and we are pleased to continue this fruitful cooperation and valuable partnership that will benefit Qatari electric power sector,” said Al Kuwari.

He said that this partnership comes to support Qatari electrical infrastructure with the latest systems and modern technology means to upgrade the level of services provided and complete the process of a comprehensive digital transition to achieve global leadership at all levels for Qatar.

Al Hajri said that the seventh renewal of the memorandum of understanding demonstrates the strength of the relationship between QEWC and Kahramaa on the one hand, and Chubu Electric Power Company on the other.

He stressed on the importance of cooperation at the level of exchanging experiences in the fields of environmental protection, safety management and maintenance quality, in addition to developing Qatari human resources through mutual visits between the two parties.

In the coming period of the partnership will focus on further developing substations and education projects in the field of human resources. 

The parties will also activate several joint projects related to safety management and customer service, in addition to works related to the pioneering smart meter project implemented by Kahramaa across the country.

It is also decided to continue work through two work teams, one of which is related to ‘Energy Systems’ comprising both Kahramaa and Chubu, in support of the scope of the responsibilities of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation as the sole and exclusive owner and operator of the system of transmission and distribution networks for electricity and water in Qatar, and another for ‘Power Generation’ includes Qatar Electricity and Water Company and Chubu, as part of supporting the company’s role as a major provider of electricity and water in Qatar.

Over the past decade, this partnership has contributed to supporting the continuous development of the sector for the benefit of the national economy in Qatar.
