DOHA: Asian giants Japan will take on Canada in a friendly match at the Khalifa International Stadium on Friday.

For Japan, the game is a tune-up for the FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifier against Jordan.

The Samurai Blue play their away match of the World Cup qualifying campaign of Group B in Amman on March 26.

Japan, which leads its qualifying group, seeks its fifth straight appearance at the World Cup finals in Brazil.

Japan need only one win to guarantee their berth.

Japan have 13 points from four wins and a draw, ahead of Australia, Iraq and Oman on five points each, and Jordan on four points in Group B of the Asian Zone’s final qualifying round.

Canada are out of contention in CONCACAF Zone, having finished third behind Honduras and Panama in Group C.

Japan is ranked 26th in the latest FIFA rankings released this month, while Canada is 68th. The last and only time Japan played Canada was at the 2001 Confederations Cup in Japan.

The game is free of charge and starts from 7.05pm. Gates 2 and 25 will open at 5.30pm, said the organisers. The Peninsula
