Doha: President of the Global Forum for Moderation Dr. Bouguerra Soltani stressed that Qatar has succeeded in establishing a prestigious international position due to its serious efforts to promote international peace and security, as well as its regional and global roles.
On the sidelines of his participation in the Second International Conference on Religious Freedom and Peacemaking, Dr. Soltani said that Qatar has earned the respect and appreciation of the international community for its commitment to addressing complex and tense issues, such as its mediation efforts in Sudan, Afghanistan, Eritrea, and Djibouti, in addition to its prominent role in mediating the Gaza conflict, a role that history will not forget and humanity will not ignore.
In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), he pointed out that Doha hosting international conferences on interfaith dialogue is part of completing the pioneering political and diplomatic effort, as the work of thinkers, elites, and global influencers serves as a fundamental pillar that helps decision-makers achieve their goals, correct trends, and remove the prejudices created by global propaganda that holds religions accountable for international conflicts.
He added that it was wise for the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue to organize such conferences and host prominent figures from different continents and Abrahamic religions to conduct serious dialogue on building peace in a divided world because every war eventually leads to negotiations and settlement agreements that restore rights to their rightful owners.
He pointed out that the conference aims to raise awareness among partners that religious commitment entails individual and collective responsibilities aimed at ensuring a minimum of human dignity, and one of the most important of these rights is the right of people to self-determination.
He added that such conferences can contribute to finding solutions to unresolved issues and opening new fields for responsible dialogue, enhancing the role of reason and making solutions more mature, in order to respect human dignity and ensure freedom and basic rights, foremost of which is the right of peoples to self-determination.
He confirmed that the State of Qatar enjoys the respect of the international community, has earned the trust of its partners, and is qualified to play a central role in defusing conflicts and utilizing all those who reject violence and extremism to contribute to peacebuilding, through religious, societal, and humanitarian efforts that help resolve conflicts and enhance stability.
Dr. Soltani spoke about his previous participation in the first conference, confirming that he witnessed seriousness, responsibility, and respect from the participants, as well as the organizers’ interest in the outcomes and recommendations, which encouraged him to strengthen his partnership with the entities aiming to bring closer the perspectives of elites around the world.
