Best Buddies Qatar Club in DeBakey High School for Health Professions held an awareness campaign on communication with people with disabilities.
Best Buddies Qatar, a non-profitable governmental organization that aims to enhance life of people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities through social integration and one-to-one long-lasting meaningful friendships, under umbrella of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, organised the campaign for over 100 teachers and students of the institution.
As many as 43 students and 60 teachers were given lectures about the intricacies of communicating with people with disabilities. The participants were glad about participating in the event.
Linda Marbie, the Executive Director of DeBakey High School for Health Professions, said: “Best Buddies Qatar Club in DeBakey school adds creative value to our students because it helps them develop compassion and leadership skills which are vital qualities for well-rounded citizens.”
Justin Marbie, Best Buddies Qatar Club coordinator, added: “As this is the third year that our school is participating with Best Buddies Qatar, our students are constantly learning new and better practices about interacting with others that may have limited capabilities. We want our students to be caring individuals as well as academically intelligent, and this programme allows such expression.”
Laalei Abu Alfain, the Executive Director of Best Buddies Qatar, expressed gratitude to DeBakey High School for Health Professions for raising awareness about communication with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
