Doha: Emir Cup and Qatar Cup winners Al Sadd were drawn in the same group along with Al Rayyan for the upcoming QSL Cup.
At yesterday’s draw ceremony held in the presence of representatives from all the 12 QNB clubs, Al Sadd, which started the season by winning the Sheikh Jassim Cup, were placed in the same group along with Al Rayyan, Umm Salal, Al Arabi, Al Ahli and Al Markhiya in Group B.
Group A consists of Al Duhail, Al Gharafa, Al Kharaitiyat, Al Sailiya, Al Khor and Qatar SC.
The club ranking were decided according to the QSL standings of last season.
Al Duhail, the champions of the 2016-17 league, were top seeds of Group A, and Al Sadd, the runners-up, top seeds of Group B.
The tournament is set to take place after the third week of QNB Stars League action when the competition will take a two-week break for international football.
The schedule will be announced in the coming days and the matches will be played on a league cum knockout format.
The match venues will be decided in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
The tournament is independent of the QNB Stars League.
The yellow and red cards are separate from the league, and the player who receives the fourth yellow card or red card will be suspended in the competition itself.
