DOHA: The second day of Eid saw 1,042 patients visiting Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) hospitals, mostly with heart and stomach ailments, according to HMC sources.
Over 500 cases were reported at the emergency section at Hamad General Hospital (HGH). Of these, 12 patients were admitted and four shifted to the intensive care unit.
Doctors said most cases were related to indigestion due to ‘overconsumption’ of meat and sweets.
Dr Varda Al Saad, Consultant, emergency section, HGH, said: “Most cases coming to the emergency are related to overconsumption of sweets and other food items. People should not consume excessive food and sweets during Eid... There are also problems in the way people preserve sweets in refrigerators.” He also advised people to opt for healthy traditional food.
Ambulance Service at HMC received 461 emergency calls since last midnight. Twelve were related to road accidents and four seeking help after fires broke out in Al Rayan. Air ambulances responded to seven calls.
Hussain Mohamed Kharmous, Assistant Director, Ambulances Services, said HMC is equipped with 75 ambulances to respond to any possible emergencies round-the-clock.
Six four-wheelers have been deployed at the desert areas, he added. The Peninsula
