Minister to attend Giffoni Film Festival opening
Rome: Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari yesterday arrived in Italy to participate in the opening ceremony of the 45th Giffoni International Film Festival in the city of Naples.
It is one of the three major film festivals in Europe that attaches importance to films for children and youth.
It represents one of the important initiatives as part of cultural exchanges and dialogue of civilisations as officials from various countries take part.
Qatar earlier participated in the festival as a member of Arbitration Committee.
Khartoum: Darfur Regional Authority Chairman Dr Al Tijani Al Sisi praised the role of the Qatari leadership in achieving lasting peace and overall development in Darfur.
In a statement, he said this role took the region from a stage of war to a phase of development via a road map set by Doha Document for Peace in Darfur to achieve comprehensive development.
Dr Al Sisi said the peace process has been progressing fast and the region will soon witness the launch of the first phase of mover 1,000 development projects.
He said the Doha Document is the basis for establishing peace in Darfur and stressed that stages of implementing the document have made strides and provided an incentive for people peace process partners to move forward towards establishing lasting peace. qna
DOHA: A criminal court has fined an Asian national QR10,000 for reckless driving and running over a four-year old Pakistani child, who later succumbed to injuries, Al Raya reports.
The court also ordered him to pay QR200,000 in blood money to the child’s parents.
The motorist will have to contribute to the blood money along with the car insurer.
The accident happened in Bin Omran.
The child was rushed to hospital and died in the emergency ward.
